HE'S HOME!

He's home... woo hoo!  And check it out, he's growing out his hair.  He said: 'Mom, my hair is getting long!'  I said: 'Your eyebrows are still the longest hair on your head!'  I'll never get used to seeing him without his beautiful long hair, but looking at this picture... I couldn't imagine him WITH long hair.  My son, the Big Bad Cav Scout went out with his friends to a party in his honor, and what did he wear?  An old shirt from his county maintenance job!

I love listening to Gabe and Steve talking, they're like old battle buddies!  They have so many similar experiences, but there is 22 years between them.  I guess the Army basically hasn't changed.  It suits Gabe though, just as it suited his dad.  And I guess I was just destined to be a military daughter/ wive/ mom.

Gabe was telling us about the place he was shipping out to, and I was just freaked out!  'Oh no no no!'  I said, 'Thats just not safe!'  I know its a war zone, but good golly, the only way it could get worse is if they were to all stand in the bulls eye of a giant target with 'Shoot Me' signs taped on their backs!

I guess this is why they don't let Moms visit their kids in the war zone, the elite Mom Squad would infiltrate the battlefield and clean everything up to make it safe for our children.  Okay, maybe I wouldn't be one of them trying to clean up, but I would definitely be blowing things up to make it harder for the bad guys to get to the good guys.  I thought being a mom was hard while raising little ones and then trying to get them through school.  Nothing compares to trying to get them through a war.  Sometimes I find myself secretly wishing my boy was still working at the Boobie-Bar, but there is a painful, almost guilty amount of pride for him and his current occupation.

I'm so glad he's home and you have a few days to spend together.  I can't imagine sending my child off to war.  I would definately want to be on that Mom Squad.  I am sure you are very proud.  I have nothing but complete respect for service people and their families and the risks they take for the good of us all.

Woo Hoo! Gabes Home, Gabes HOME, GABES HOME! <g>. I know what you mean about being proud, yet worried. My brother just retired from the Navy last friday (20 years) and when they did the relieving of the watch part of the ceremony they had my nephew (1 1/2 years) relieve his father.... I don't think there was a dry eye in the house! My nephew's ship leaves for overseas duty in 2 weeks and I worry about him also, but like you say, I'm also very proud of him and his service!

Jodi,
Your son is so incredibly handsome! Lucky for him, I'm not 30 years younger.
I am going to keep Gabe in my prayers-his safety and well-being, and your sanity as well. Have a wonderful visit with him. Although I am totally against this war, you are so right to feel proud of your son and the other brave soldiers who are fighting for.....for.... well never mind, since I'm just not sure.
If you've done any entries that discuss the purpose of the war, please send me a link. I'd love for someone at the heart of the matter to explain it to me, instead of these asshole politicians and moron pundits on TV.
Sorry, Jodi. This has turned into a rant of frustration, and that wasn't the intention. I totally support the troops and the soldiers, I'm just not certain that the outcome of this Iraqi constitution will show any realtionship to the type of democracy that our well-meaning leaders originally intended. But I've been wrong before.

I am so glad that your son is home and will be able to spend some time with you before he goes off to war..... be proud of him... he is a hero.... we leave tomorrow to go see my Step son in Wisconsin begore he leaves for Iraq on the 5th.  You are right to be afraid for his safety, that is your job as a mother. We are scared for my step son as well... he will be one that works on finding bombs and detinating them. Scarey for us....I wish that we could hide him in the basement and keep him safe...but he along with Gabe chose to do what they do and they do it well. I will be praying for your son. Keep us up to date.

Dorn,  as an Army Mom, I understand so well what you are feeling and actually got a chuckle out of us MOMS cleaning up the war area for our kids.  We would get the job done rather fast don't you think?    I find myself also wishing my son was still the little boy that is asking for Mom's help.

We are all proud of our sons and daughters, and rightly so.  They stand tall and proud and do their jobs so well.  Tell Gabe he will be on my prayer list along side our son Josh and all the other soldiers of this country.  Our prayers are also with you and your family.  I know we will all have our sons home soon so we can enjoy every waking moment (with or without that coffee <eg>).

There should be no guilt for the pride you feel in him. Regardless of how you feel about this war, he is doing his duty, proudly, bravely, which is more than many can say.
Be proud
Peace and love,
Charley

Oh Dorn, he is a handsome, hot looking young man!  WOW!!!  And, I wish he were still at the boobie bar too, because it is easier to keep them from harms way, isn't it?  I am so worried for Gabe.  Prayers coming...for protection for him and coping for you!

Be well,
Dawn

My heart really goes out to you.  I cannot imagine nor do I want to.  He is a finelooking young man.  I PRAY for God to put angels around him to protect him from all evil and harm.  You have every right to feel proud.  Your son is making a great sacrifice for his country.  He is a hero.

I just don't get it when people say they are against this war.  I think they see things through rose-colored glasses.  I know my opinion is not a popular one, and that is okay.  That is why we live in America.  After September 11th, I don't see how anyone could be against this war.  At least our president has gall enough to stand up to the Saddam Hussein's of the world and the Osama Bin Laden's.  I hope they find that bastard and hang him by his #*%^&!!!!!!!!!!

Love and prayers for Gabe and all of our fine military men and women.
