A LETTER FROM GABE, more spring cleaning, and breakfast!

I got an email from my son Gabe in Iraq.  Besides the soldier from his platoon who was killed, two others were seriously injured.  Both were friends of his.  One was a room mate.  (it was hard when we came back from that mission when all his stuff was cleaned out of my room). How do you comfort a person, a child of yours, when something like this happens, and they are thousands of miles away?  And how do you comfort yourself when he asks you to send extra uniforms because his are bloodstained?  His new camera was another casualty of the war.  I can't replace his buddies, God knows I wish I could.  I can replace the camera.  I will do so, because I know he will need visual memories other than the ones he carries in his nightmares, to help him deal with this phase of his life once he gets back.  I'd rather him have his friends around him at a BBQ though.  Thats how it was supposed to be in Life According To Me

Art and Becca cleaned my upstairs yesterday.  Okay, they were in trouble and HAD to as punishment from their father, but I ignored their pouty faces and enjoyed the results.  They are obviously better housekeepers than their mom is when they make the effort.  Of course if they weren't such good mess makers they wouldn't have to be such good cleaner-upppers!

After almost 22 years of marriage I only just discovered that if I wear a see-through bra to bed, Dickidoo will make breakfast in the morning!

Dorn, I am so sorry, I know that you must be terrified.  I know that you don't know how to comfort him, I wish I had the right words.  Sadly I don't either.  But my prayers and thoughts are with Gabe and his platoon. Gabe is a very brave and amazing young man, and his Son is going to be so proud of him!

Dorn,
I wish I had something to say that would help you right now.  I can not in my wildest imagination know what you are going through.  My heart goes out to you and Gabe!  Know he is always in my prayers along with you.  You're a strong woman, I so admire you for the way you are able to handle this.  I would be in a loony bin now.
I am sure you do have the right words to comfort your son, I've seen, through reading your journals for over a year, what an awsome mother you are!  He is lucky to have you, WE are lucky to have him!

Luv,
Promise

My heart stopped today when I read that a Black Hawk had been shot down, since I have a friend in Iraq flying Black Hawks.  I pray for both Doc and Gabe at last a few times a day, and I am not a religious person.  Doc had also been through Viet Nam.  Even if Doc is fine, some other family will be grieving. It is so sad.

I am looking forward SO MUCH to meeting your oompha loomphas when we come to Colorado!!

Gabe's in my prayers. Our last deployment we lost 9 of our friends. This time so far we've only had a couple injuries, one actually ended up saving the soldiers life, because when they opened him up they discovered he has serious kidney problems.

As an Army wife this is not an easy life. This deployment's been easier. I had to just give control to GOD.

My heart and prayers are with these soldiers friends. Last night I got an IM from my friend who's dh is a Black Hawk Pilot, she got a call from his commander saying "He's safe". We're all waiting to find out if that means those who died are from his unit.

God Bless

Christy

I have Gabe in my prayers everyday. I gasp everytime I hear of death's over there, worring , if Gabe is alright. This has got to be hard on you. I give a sigh of relief when you've heard from him. Hopefully his tour will go fast and he will be back state side soon.
Hugs, R.C.

Dorn, I'm sorry about Gabe's loss.  I will keep him, and his friends in my thoughts.  I *so* hope he gets to come home soon.

(and on a lighter note, I'm cracking up at the comment about Dickidoo!)
Hugs,
Heather
