Rocky is in pre-algebra. She just turned 11. I don't think algebra had even been invented yet when I was 11. My kids are rotten. They all like to brag because they know something that I don't. So they can count letters, big deal! Besides, being smarter than me doesn't mean a whole lot now does it?

Oh girl....don't even get me started on math! Last year I enrolled in some college classes one being a basic math class and my 8 year old was helping me with my homework!!!! Math is stupid! We should vote to get rid of it I say. ;) Robin
Hahahaha! I am so glad I'm not the only one! Heck, I don't even know if 'algebra' is a word or a 7 letter number! I got into a big debate with my pre-algebra teacher about the logic in spelling numbers. I lost and he gave me my only D in my 12 years of school.
It's no grand thing. They can't pay a mortgage, can they?:)
I understand completely. I have an 11 year old also. He is learning things I learned when I was in the 11th grade. Well, I should say he is learning what they were teaching when I was in the 11th grade instead of what I was learning then. LOL

My daughter is 13. She took Prealgebra last year. Son is in college and he is taking it also. It is waaaaaay beyond my comprehension!!!!!!! That is okay, we are smarter and wiser in a whole lot more different things!!!!! ;-)

I have always hated algebra. Letters are for reading. Numbers are for counting. I've been reading your journal for a while now but have never commented. You have the best sense of humor and I'm jealous of how well you express your feelings. My prayers are with you, your son and the rest of your family.

I gave up on algebra... after all, my IDIOT teacher said that to determine area, one must use the formula a=pi r 2.....and WE all know that pie are not square, pie are round....good luck!!! ;)
I love your example. I was a math dummy...just when my kids needed help they changed the way math was taught to "new" math...it sucked. I could plow along with the "old" math but felt they were just trying to validate stupidity with their "new" math. lol I loved algebra was always good in math but your answer is right what the ****? there is no way to solve that problem with out knowing what x and y stand for and to be honest how the heck do they think they get away with making you add numbers lol

Dorn-Mine go to after school tutoring for this....wtf is right...It took me 3 semesters in h.s. to pass this..My senior teacher passed me out of the goodness of his heart, cuz I know I didn't earn the grade I got unless it was for effort alone.

i waited 20 years to go back to college - and i can honestly tell you they HAVE invented numbers since i was young - my first pre calc class they started talking about this "i" thing - and everybody else in the class seemed to know what he was talking about - turns out it's the square root of -1 ... WFT indeed!
