NOOOOOOOOOOOO!

My beloved Nikon has gone to the great dark room in the sky.

I took the Oompas to the Renaissance Festival this weekend.  Saturday's forecast called for rain.  The clouds provided a cooling break from the usually intense summer heat.  Fortunately for the fairgoers the rain waited until the last hour or so to commence, but from then on it was a torrential downpour.  That didn't dampen the Oompas spirits at all and they danced around quite happily in the rain while the others, myself included, ran for cover.

I thought I had done a good job protecting my camera from the elements.  I thought wrong.  On the ride home Art tried to view the pictures I had taken but nothing happened when he turned the power switch on.

I am devastated.  That Nikon was like a third eye to me.  It was a recorder of the wonder and beauty I encountered along my path through life.  I feel barren, naked.  I feel blind.  I am afraid to blink lest I forget.

I tried blowing on the insides to dry out any moisture that might be in the camera, a sort of camera CPR if you will, but I am thinking its more serious that a simple drowning.  I am afraid my camera may have been electrocuted, its circuits fried when an ill timed drop of rain got on a sensitive part while the camera was still on.

I am in mourning.

Here are some of the last pictures taken with my dearly departed baby.  The fairy with the hot pink hair is Art's girlfriend Emily.  Don't they make  an adorable couple?  Becca and Rocky continued dancing outside the entrance at the close of the fair (1/2 hour early since the rain showed no sign of letting up) and were presented with roses by an appreciative cast member.  Needless to say, despite the painful loss of my camera, we had a wonderful time at the fair and look forward to next season.

Hopefully I'll have a new camera by then.

My camera fund cookie jar already has $1.25 in loose change found around the house.  Only $798.75 to go towards a new Nikon.

And an umbrella.

I love those kinds of fairs - Great Pictures, Thanks for sharing!  Could you take the Nikon to a specialist to see if there is anything that can be done? Or is a goner!  Sorry to hear of your loss. Hope you find a new friend soon or get the old one fixed! Have a happy tomorrow!

oh no, not the camera. Maybe a camera shop can do something? These last pictures that you took are indeed magical...I love the way you got the girls with the rose when they were dancing, you can almost see the movement. You have quite an eye Dorn.  Maybe hubby will take pity on your plight and replace it soon. (wishing for you)...love, Sandi

man, a camera is like a good purse, you get used to it and it just can't be replaced!  ....until you find one that holds more stuff and you grudgingly bring it home :-D

Sorry about your Nikon.  The Renaissance Faire is in PA in the fall.  I might go this year.  My mom likes to do that kind of thing and I'll prolly tag along.  Great pics!

Waaaaaaaaaaah! Not your camera! I would be lost without my Rebel. My little point and shoot died a few months ago (it was my first digital.. only 2.3 MP), and I even miss it! My DSLR isn't always convenient to just grab and shoot. Hint: If you go to Best Buy and get a credit card and then watch you can get your new camera with no interest and 18 months to pay for it!! That's how I got mine. You just have to be SURE to pay it off by the date. If you don't they tack on ALL the interest from the 18 months!!

So sorry to hear about the Nikon (Sure it wasn't  the battery?) I love your pictures of the Rennaisance Faire. Makes me miss my own around here. Unfortunately I didn't get a chance to go this year. You have inspired me to make sure I go without a doubt next year. (Hugs) Indigo

I am just now getting around to catching up on your blog and I read this entry. I am sorry to hear about your camera (I know how attached you are to it). I might have some good news for you though. I work at a Nikon certified camera repair center. You can mail the camera to us and we can have a technician write an estimate on how much it would be to fix the damage. We have dozens of cameras mailed to us daily and 9 times out of 10 we can fix them. Its a LOT cheaper than buying a new one. Email me if you want more info. about the repair center.
