'BORD' IS A 4-LETTER WORD

Today sucked.  I was bored all day.  Its not that I didn't have anything to do.  Goodness, there were piles of laundry that were second only to the piles of dirty dishes.  No, there was plenty to do, but nothing I wanted to do.

As a kid growing up, I was not allowed to use that word in the house.  'Bored' was a forbidden word.  My mom would hit the roof any time she heard it.  After a while we learned never to use it if she was within earshot, because once the ranting was over she would always find us something to do to keep our minds off of our boredom.   They were never good things, or fun things.  They were things like matching dozens of mis-matched socks, pulling weeds or washing windows.

But today I was bored.  I was good ole fashioned, nothing to do bored!  I looked at the dishes on the counter... and thats about as far as that went.  I tossed a teeshirt on the ever-growing laundry pile, I checked the computer a gazillion times to see if Gabe was on, and nothing... NOTHING tickled my 'gotta do-it' bone.

So what does one do on a day like today?  Abso-fricken-lutely nothing!  But my son Art has saved me.  He borrowed Monty Python's Holy Grail from a friend so now I am off to visit the Knights of Ni.

Heard y'all got some snow.  That is one of the things I miss the most about living in Colorado.  Prayers for you and Gabe.  I try to make sure ALL dishes are washed before I go to bed at night, if I didn't, here in the deep south, the cockroaches would tote us off! :-P

Blessings!~

I laughed at the 'pulling weeds' comment.  That was my mother's favorite suggestion if we dared say we were bored. I learned quickly to find something to keep me busy !  Tina  http://journals.aol.com/onemoretina/Ridealongwithme

My Mom used to say "Only a boring person gets bored".... Oh how I hated to hear that!! I take bored days quite frequently around here. At least a few bored hours anyway.

I think we had the same mother.  lol  She too always found something for us to do if we ever uttered those words.  What's worse is that when my daughter says that she is bored, I too mention either the floor needs washing, or the furniture needs polishing, or my favorite, have you seen your room?, how could you possible be bored with a room that looks like that.  lol

Oh don't even get me started on matching socks! Okay, my sister wears white socks, my bro-n-law wears white socks and both boys wear white sock. Easy you say? Ha! Mom and dad wear socks that look alike except for a small difference that matters enough that you have to match them. PLUS! One wears socks that is a hair shorter. Same with the boys! Just minor differences. Dummy me wanted to be the nice sister and help one day. Sure! says she. She comes in with a huge rectangle laundry spilling over with socks from all four people! I had nightmares for weeks of sock puppets screeming, "Match me! Match Me!!!"

My favourite expression is "Only boring people are ever bored!!" - Of course between you and me, this is my way of relieving myself  of  guilt that I don't stimulate my stir-crazy kids enough!

Oh, how I've suffered from this this summer, and the cool of fall is not helping it lift like I thought it would...and I just can't do abso-fricken-lutely nothing all day everyday!  And boy, bored was forbidden in my house growing up, too.  And I've found, I do to my children what was done to me...What?  Bored?  Really.  Well, here's a list a mile long I have, that I just can't wait to share with you!
